So Jack is officially 3 months old! I know, so crazy. We feel like he has always been apart of our lives, so it’s crazy to think he’s only been here for 3 months. We love him more than we could have ever imagined, and it only gets better everyday. I’m going to give a little update on what he has been up to and how he is doing!
Naps: We wanted to start him on a sleeping schedule (for the day) when he was 6 weeks, and we had every intention of doing so, but I think it stressed me out more doing that. It worked for a few days, but I was so crazy with watching the time that I knew it wasn’t going to work forever. I was constantly worried about what time he needed to be down and almost forcing him to nap when he didn’t want to which stressed both of us out.
Every mom/dad does what is best for them, so I think what works best for us is to put him down for a nap whenever we notice him yawning or rubbing his eyes or just acting sleepy. We are new parents, so of course we are not experts. But I don’t think any parent is an expert because we all just do the best that we can! I also used to be able to just hold him in my lap sitting up with his paci (This is the BEST paci, he loves it) in, and he would literally just fall asleep in that position. I think my family jinxed me though. They thought it was SO crazy how easily he would fall asleep. Now, not so much. Cue rolling eyes. We have started putting him in his crib for naps for the first time though! We swaddle him, make the room dark, turn our sound machine on (box fan) and do a few “shh shh shh” or sing him a few songs and he goes right to sleep.
Sleeping at night: For the first few weeks of his life up until a month, he was eating every 2 hours on the dot almost whether it was day or night. THAT was exhausting! We tried swaddling, but thought he hated it because he always grunted throughout the night. Little did we know that’s just what babies do, so we went back to the swaddle at a month old, and he slept about 5 hours! He would give us a few long stretches before that, but after that night, it was pretty consistent! Of course he has had a few ups and downs, but ever since he can go 7 1/2 – 8 hours at night not eating! I think the consistency of having a warm bath every night (here), putting on his calming cream (Here’s the brand), swaddling him (here) and sleeping in his DockATot (LOVE this thing!) has worked wonders.
Everything else: He loves to sleep in his car seat when we are driving! Lately he has been a little terror, though. If he doesn’t want to sleep, he doesn’t like to be confined to his car seat. Coo-ing all of the time. Giggles when we tickle him. Loves to take naps in our comforter. We fluff it up so it’s super cozy, and he rolls around in it until he is comfortable and goes to sleep. It’s SO cute. He’s actually napping in the comforter now as I type this. Loves his swing! Absolutely loves bath time. He has started to kick a lot and splash around in it and it’s his favorite! Loves when we sing to him. Likes to stand in his walker toy and hang out. Always putting his hand in his mouth or trying to put toys in his mouth. Has the CUTEST little chunky cheeks. I could die when I look at them. I swear my heart explodes every time. I looooove them.
